The administration, management and responsibility for the proper operation of the retirement defined benefit system, and for interpreting and making effective the provisions of the retirement system ordinance are vested in a Board of Trustees consistent with Article IX, Section 24 of the State of Michigan Constitution and P.A. 314 of 1965 as amended and other applicable law.

Board of Trustees - Composition

The St. Clair County Employees Retirement System Board of Trustees consists of nine individuals.

  • The County Board of Commissioners Chairperson or Commissioner appointed designee
  • The Road Commission Chairperson or Commissioner appointed designee
  • The County Administrator/Controller as appointed or Commissioner appointed designee
  • A Citizen not eligible for membership appointed by the County Board of Commissioners
  • A Retired Member receiving a pension elected by the retired members
  • A member of the plan in the employ of and elected by members of the Road Commission
  • A member of the plan in the employ of and elected by members of the Community Mental Health Authority
  • Two  members of the plan in the employ of and elected by members of General County and/or Sheriff who are not in the same department

A Chairperson and Vice Chariperson are elected in July of each year.

Regular meetings of the Board of Trustees are typically conducted on the third Tuesday of each month at 8:00 a.m. at:

All meetings of the Board shall be held in compliance with the Open Meetings Act, Public Act 267 of 1976, as amended (MCL 15.261 et seq.).
