St. Clair County opened the Office of the Public Defender in March of 2020.
The Office of the Public Defender provides competent, effective, and ethical legal representation to all persons charged with a crime who cannot afford an attorney. All individuals, regardless of economic condition, race, religion, or national origin are treated with dignity and respect.
The Office of the Public Defender appoints attorneys to handle criminal matters. We have full-time staff attorneys, contract attorneys, and conflict attorneys who are assigned cases. We also provide funds for private investigators and expert witnesses to assist in your defense, and to assure you receive the highest level of legal representation.
