Performs general seasonal maintenance and operation of heavy equipment for snow removal.


·         Operate maintenance and custodial equipment and tools.

·         Perform minor maintenance, electrical, plumbing and carpentry tasks.

·         Perform preventative maintenance of equipment and tools.

·         Maintain records and reports as required.

·         Maintain sidewalks, parking lots and runway in hazard free condition on a daily basis.

·         Availability for airport emergencies as needed.

·         Variety of lawn maintenance duties, i.e. lawn mowing.

·         Scheduling of employees to be on-call for snow removal during the winter months shall be determined by the Airport Director.

·         Other related duties as may be assigned.    



An employee in this classification is subject to the direct supervision of the Airport Director and the Airport Operations Manager.




·         Graduation from an accredited high school (GED acceptable).

·         General maintenance and operation of heavy equipment required.

·         Reasonable experience in performing a variety of airfield cleaning and maintenance work and general maintenance and operation of snow removal equipment.

·         Experience in airport operations and/or aviation preferred but not required.

·         Reasonable knowledge of the methods, materials and heavy equipment for snow removal. 

·         Reasonable knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry and/or small engine repair. 

·         Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. 

·         Ability to work effectively with others. 

·         Ability to operate heavy equipment and mowers. 

·         Ability to remain calm under pressure.

·         Good physical condition.



·         Ability to demonstrate predictable, reliable, and timely attendance.                 

·         Ability to read, write & communicate in English; follow written and verbal instruction and understand basic mathematics and figure checking.              

·         Ability to interpret and apply procedures, rules, technical information, instructions, manuals to complete tasks accurately and on schedule.                                     

·         Ability to learn from directions, observations, and mistakes; and apply procedures using good judgement.                                                                      

·         Ability to use discretion and maintain sensitive and confidential information.     

·         Ability to work independently or part of a team; ability to interact appropriately with others such as County officials, employees, vendors and the general public.

·         Ability to work under supervision, receiving instructions/feedback, coaching/counseling and/or action/discipline.                                            

·         Adaptability to change in the work environment, managing competing demands and ability to deal with frequent changes, delays or unexpected events.

·         Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction

·         Proficient skills using Microsoft Office programs including, but not limited to: Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook required.  Proficiency may be tested.

·         This position may require irregular hours and work schedules will include nights, weekends, holidays and overtime. 

·         Position frequently works in an outdoor environment with exposure to weather-related heat and cold, rain, wind and varying weather conditions.

·         Operating equipment exposes personnel to moderate levels of noise, fumes, airborne particles and vibrations on a regular basis.

·         The employee occasionally works in areas requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment such as gloves, safety glasses or hearing protection.
